Privacy Policy

Look, we get it - nobody really likes reading these things. But we're pretty straightforward about how we handle your info. We're just a flower shop that happens to love all things dark and beautiful, not some data-mining corporation.

The Short Version

When you order flowers from us or sign up for our Midnight Garden subscription, we need some basic info - your name, address, contact details, that sort of thing. We use it to get your arrangements to you and maybe send you updates about new designs. We don't sell your data to anyone because honestly, that's just not our vibe. We keep things secure, respect your choices, and you can ask us about your data anytime.

We collect the basics that any flower shop needs to actually deliver your arrangements:

  • Contact stuff: Your name, email, phone number - you know, so we can reach you if your delivery driver can't find your place at midnight (just kidding, we deliver during normal hours).
  • Delivery details: Your address and any special instructions like "leave by the gargoyle statue" or whatever.
  • Payment info: Credit card details, but these go straight through our secure payment processor - we don't actually store them ourselves.
  • Order history: What you've ordered before, so we can remember if you loved those black calla lilies or wanted more dried florals next time.
  • Preferences: If you've told us about allergies, favorite flowers, or design styles you're into.

We also get some automatic stuff when you visit our website - like your IP address and what browser you're using. Pretty standard web stuff that helps us keep the site running smoothly.

We're not doing anything weird with your info, promise. Here's what we actually use it for:

  • Getting your dark blooms delivered to the right place at the right time
  • Processing payments and sending you receipts
  • Answering questions when you reach out to us
  • Sending updates about your order status
  • Managing your Midnight Garden subscription if you've got one
  • Letting you know about new collections or special designs (but only if you've said that's cool)
  • Improving our website and services based on what people actually use
  • Keeping records for accounting and legal requirements

We're not gonna spam you with daily emails or sell your info to random companies. That's just not how we roll.

We keep your info pretty close to the chest, but there are a few situations where we need to share it:

  • Delivery services: Obviously we gotta tell the courier where to take your flowers. They only get what they need to complete the delivery.
  • Payment processors: When you pay with a card, that goes through a secure payment service. They handle the financial stuff according to banking regulations.
  • Email service: We use an email platform to send order confirmations and updates. They're bound by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal requirements: If the law says we gotta hand over info, we will. But we'd only do this if legally required.

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. Period. That's just not something we're interested in doing.

Yeah, we use cookies - but not the edible kind (though those would pair nicely with our aesthetic). These are just small files that help our website work properly.

We use them to:

  • Remember what's in your shopping cart
  • Keep you logged in if you've got an account
  • Remember your preferences
  • Understand which parts of the site people actually use

Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can block them if you want, but it might make some parts of the site not work as well. Your call though.

We take reasonable precautions to protect your information. Our website uses SSL encryption (that's the little lock icon in your browser), and we work with reputable service providers who also take security seriously.

That said, nothing on the internet is 100% secure. We do our best, but we can't guarantee absolute security. We limit who on our team can access customer data, and we don't keep information longer than we need to.

If there's ever a data breach that affects you, we'll let you know as required by Canadian law.

Under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA), you've got some rights when it comes to your personal info:

  • Access: You can ask what information we have about you
  • Correction: If something's wrong, let us know and we'll fix it
  • Deletion: You can ask us to delete your data (though we might need to keep some stuff for legal or accounting reasons)
  • Opt-out: Don't wanna get marketing emails? Just click unsubscribe or let us know
  • Portability: You can ask for a copy of your data in a readable format

To exercise any of these rights, just shoot us an email at contact@shadowrithverse.info or give us a call at (604) 555-7423. We'll get back to you within a reasonable timeframe.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your privacy concerns, you can file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

We don't keep your information forever. Here's generally how long we hang onto different types of data:

  • Order information: We keep this for about 7 years for tax and accounting purposes (Canadian tax law requires it)
  • Marketing preferences: Until you tell us to stop or we notice you haven't engaged in a really long time
  • Account data: As long as your account is active, or a reasonable period after you stop using it
  • Website analytics: Usually aggregated and anonymized after a certain period

When we don't need your data anymore, we'll either delete it or anonymize it so it can't be traced back to you.

Sometimes we might link to other websites - like our suppliers' blogs, inspiration sources, or social media. Once you click on those links, you're on their turf and their privacy policies apply, not ours.

We're not responsible for what happens on other websites, so it's worth checking out their privacy practices if you're concerned. We try to only link to reputable sites, but we can't control what they do.

Our services are intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you're a parent and think your kid has given us their information, please let us know and we'll delete it.

That said, if someone under 18 wants to order flowers with their parent's permission and payment info, that's fine - but the adult is the one we're dealing with from a privacy standpoint.

We might update this privacy policy from time to time - maybe because we've added new services, changed how we do things, or because laws have changed. When we make significant updates, we'll post the new policy here and update the "last updated" date at the top.

If the changes are major, we'll try to give you a heads up - probably via email if we have your contact info. But it's also a good idea to check back here occasionally.

By continuing to use our services after we've updated the policy, you're saying you're cool with the changes.

Still Have Questions?

Look, if any of this is confusing or you've got specific questions about your privacy, just reach out. We're happy to explain things in plain English. We're a small shop, so you'll be talking to actual humans who work with the flowers every day.
